Combining Subsea Desalination and Agrivoltaics

Oslo, November 24th 2022

FSubsea signs a landmark agreement (MoU) with Sahara Forest Project, (SFP) to supply potable and irrigation water harvested at depth in the bay of Aqaba, Jordan.

Subsea desalination through Flocean is being considered for the project as it is environmentally friendly and has no impact on the fragile coral reefs and marine habitat in the Gulf of Aqaba.

SFP is a Norwegian initiative that aims to provide sustainable food, water, and energy solutions in arid regions using a combination of technologies, including agrivoltaics and SWRO. The project has built a pilot facility in Qatar and more recently in Aqaba, Jordan.

The 3-year test phase has shown that the concept is scalable and is ready for commercial scale-up for production both for the domestic vegetable market in Jordan to replace imported vegetables and for exporting vegetables to Europe.

Additional water is needed for the next step of the project and subsea desalination via Flocean is being considered as it is environmentally friendly and has no impact on the fragile coral reefs and marine habitat in the Gulf of Aqaba

Thank you for your presence and attention to this opportunity, all of: Jordan Minister of Energy H.E. Dr Saleh Ali Hamed Al-Kharabsheh, Jordan Minister of Environment, H.E.
