How it Works
Flocean harnesses natural ocean pressure at 400-600 meters depth to power reverse osmosis—cutting energy use by 50% and eliminating toxic chemical discharge.
Flocean Deep
Flocean installs modular desalination pods on the seafloor at 400-600 meters depth. Ambient hydrostatic pressure at this depth (40-50 bar) matches the pressure needed for reverse osmosis, eliminating energy-intensive feed pressurization. Our pumps sit on the seafloor where the pressure of the
ocean sucks water through the membranes. Energy goes only into
product water, not the entire feed stream.

Delivery
Delivery
Fresh water travels to shore through a subsea pipeline. The remaining seawater, slightly more concentrated but near ambient salinity, disperses back into the ocean. Chemical-free discharge dilutes to ambient levels within 30 meters.

Reverse Osmosis
Reverse Osmosis
Our ultra-fine membranes benefit from the natural pressure of the ocean pushing water through them, rather than needing pumps to intake water. Energy goes only into product water, not the entire feed stream.

Natural
Pressurization
Natural
Pressurization
At this depth, ambient ocean pressure reaches 40-50 bar, exactly what's needed for reverse osmosis. The ocean provides the pressure. No energy-intensive pumps needed.

Intake
at Depth
Intake
at Depth
Seawater enters at 400-600 meters below the surface. Less than 1% of sunlight reaches this depth. No light means minimal algae and significantly less biomass. The water is clean, cold, and stable.

Trans Membrane Pressure of 38-42 bar naturally aligns with the osmotic pressure required for seawater reverse osmosis
Reduces Trans Membrane Pressure and Concentration Polarization, extending membrane life
Intake velocity is an order of magnitude lower than industry standards to protect marine life from impingement
Modules designed for 18+ months between maintenance interventions
Flocean vs. Traditional Desalination
Conventional land-based plants require massive coastal infrastructure, intensive pre-treatment, and energy-hungry pressurization systems. Flocean's subsea approach eliminates these constraints by working with the ocean, not against it.
