Flocean is named to Fast Company's 2026 Most Innovative Companies list, honoring the companies making the most profound impact across industries.
Fast Company’s recognition of our work to solve the freshwater crisis with subsea desalination is another mark of momentum for a world moving towards more resilient water infrastructure.

Innovation That Goes Deeper
The freshwater crisis is accelerating. Global water use has risen 25% since 2000, and by 2030, demand is projected to outpace supply by 40%. But the challenge isn't just scarcity — it's that the infrastructure we've built to solve it was designed for a world that no longer exists. Coastal desalination plants are vulnerable to physical attacks and climate change, and conventional solutions are getting more expensive and more fragile at exactly the moment we need them most.
Flocean takes a fundamentally different approach. By deploying modular, distributed desalination systems hundreds of meters beneath the ocean surface, we are eliminating the need for the energy-intensive pumping systems and comprehensive pre-treatment modules that make traditional desalination so costly. The result is up to 50% less energy consumption, 90% less coastal land use, and no toxic brine discharge. We are creating hydrological independence for the communities that need it most.
We're glad to be recognized by Fast Company alongside other companies pushing the boundaries of what's possible. This recognition reflects the hard work of our team and partners, and the urgency of the problem we're all working to solve.
Having recently been named a Water Resilience Challenge winner by the World Economic Forum and recognized as a Best Invention of 2025 by TIME Magazine, Flocean is proving that subsea desalination is critical to solving water scarcity.
We are grateful for the support of our partners and investors, including Xylem, Burnt Island Ventures, Freebird Capital, Katapult Ocean, Nysnø Climate Investments, Ari Emanuel, Orion, Rypples, Vind, MP Pension, Momentum Capital, and Wellers Impact's Water Unite Impact Fund. Without their support, the scale and coordination needed to match the global challenge we face would not be possible.
